Lose the weight. Keep the strength.

Most weight-loss plans focus on eating less and doing more cardio, and most of them don’t last. Strength training builds muscle while you lose fat, so the change shows in how you look, how you move, and how long it lasts.

Sound familiar?

  • You’ve lost weight before, then gained it back.
  • Cardio and dieting leave you tired, hungry, and no stronger.
  • You don’t feel confident in the weight room yet.
  • You want results that last, not a 30-day challenge.

How it works

Start where you are

The free assessment looks at your goals, history, and how you move today. The first sessions are built for your current fitness, not someone else’s.

Build muscle while you lose fat

Lifting tells your body to keep and build muscle while you lose fat. That changes your shape, not just the number on the scale.

Nutrition that fits your life

General nutrition guidance is part of every session. No crash diets and no foods you have to give up forever, just habits you can keep.

Measure what matters

Every rep is logged. When the scale stalls for a week, your training record still shows you getting stronger, which keeps you going.

Sessions run 45–60 minutes at Carpio Strength & Conditioning, 213 Geary Ave in Toronto’s west end, or in your home anywhere in the city.

I’ve struggled with weight loss my entire life and had a love-hate relationship with exercise, primarily due to my lack of confidence and knowledge. That all changed when I started training with John! From day one, John’s approach was transformative. He not only taught me the ins and outs of the gym but also instilled a sense of confidence I never had before. His patience and expertise made every session enjoyable and effortless. I’m thrilled to share that I’ve lost nearly 30 lbs! I feel stronger than ever, and thanks to John, I genuinely love working out. Each session is something I look forward to, as he knows exactly how to start at my level and gradually push me to achieve more. If you’re looking for a personal trainer who can truly make a difference in your fitness journey, I highly recommend John. I’ve never loved the gym more, and I’m excited about my progress.

I’ve been training with John for a year and half and it’s been a great experience. I’ve seen big improvements in my strength, endurance, and overall muscle tone. After years of working office jobs, it definitely took a toll on my body, and started limiting what I could do. Going into my 30s, I really wanted to focus on building my strength and finding the fun in working out so it wasn’t something I had to do but that I wanted to. John is very welcoming and encouraging in the gym space. He’s adaptable to any injuries, great at making modifications, and modelling/explaining the correct form and technique for each exercise. John is great at gently pushing me to try new things and reach new goals. He always infuses some humour into the workouts which I always appreciate. He knows how to match his client’s energy to help them feel at ease and succeed.

I had the opportunity to work with John these last 6 months to get into shape for my wedding. Not only did he help me look my best for my big day, but I am also the strongest I’ve ever been and more confident in my abilities and form in the gym - something I truly never had in all these years of working out. Highly recommend checking this place out and meeting with the coaches! You won’t regret it.

Common questions

Do I need to lose weight before I start lifting?

No. Strength training is one of the best ways to start. Everything is scaled to your current fitness and progresses from there.

Will lifting make me bulky?

Not without years of training aimed at that goal. For most people, strength training while losing fat creates a leaner, firmer look.

Do you give meal plans?

General nutrition guidance is built into every session, focused on habits that fit your life. If you need a medical diet, I’ll work alongside your doctor or dietitian.

How much does it cost?

One-on-one sessions are $70–$80, and the assessment is free. There are no contracts. Many workplace Wellness Spending Accounts cover personal training.
